About ChinaVisitorTools

ChinaVisitorTools is an independent project built by a small team based in China.

We create practical online tools for independent travelers visiting China, with a focus on specific travel tasks that can otherwise become confusing, stressful, or difficult because of language, unfamiliar systems, or local travel habits.

Why We Build These Tools

Traveling independently in China often involves many small practical challenges.

A traveler may already know where they want to go, but still need a clear way to show the destination to a taxi driver. Another task may involve preparing information before arrival, understanding how a local process works, or making a simple travel decision without searching through multiple long articles.

ChinaVisitorTools is designed around these kinds of focused tasks.

Rather than trying to become a large general travel website, we prefer to build smaller tools that help solve one problem clearly.

How We Design Our Tools

We try to keep each tool focused on a specific task.

Our general design principles include:

  • keep the number of steps and inputs as low as practical;
  • make tools easy to use on a phone;
  • avoid unnecessary accounts or sign-in requirements;
  • process information locally on the user's device where practical;
  • reduce dependence on a network connection where the tool allows it;
  • explain important limitations instead of pretending a tool can verify something it cannot;
  • test tools on real devices and against practical travel situations in China.

We prefer a smaller number of useful tools over a large collection of features that travelers may never need.

Built for Real Travel Situations

Our tools are designed and tested around real travel situations in China.

That does not mean every situation, destination, service, or traveler experience will always be identical.

Transport systems, operating rules, payment services, opening arrangements, local practices, and other travel conditions can change.

Where a tool depends on information that may change, travelers should still check important details with the relevant official source or service provider when necessary.

What You Can Expect

ChinaVisitorTools will continue to focus on practical, task-oriented tools for visitors to China.

As the project grows, we may add new tools where there is a clear travel problem to solve.

We do not aim to add features simply to make the website look larger.

Our priority is to keep the tools understandable, useful, and maintainable.
